Ever find yourself in a marital rut? Suddenly realizing you’re being taken for granted. The house isn’t clean enough, supper isn’t good enough… nothing is ever done right or on time!
There’s nothing worse.
Sometimes, you get so wrapped up in the day-to-day living and trying to keep the peace, that you don’t even realize it’s an issue until it smacks you clear in the face! The realization that you’ve lost a part of yourself in the process… is mind boggling.
That’s what’s going on with my friend Theresa! She and I met last night at Neptune Theatre. I’ve been there twice this month in my attempt to “get out there”, “do something new”, “get my groove back”… find that person I lost along the way. Turns out, trying new things and discovering who you are is a helluva lot of fun if you have the strength to make mistakes, laugh at yourself and meet a few wonderful folks along the way!
Like me, Theresa is seeking a new adventure. With the exception that I haven’t taken an archery course, or singing lessons, or salsa classes… and I definitely haven’t painted any nudes! Well… not that I’m telling you anyway!
My new friend (alright whatever, “pretend friend”) is the main character in “Mrs. Parliament’s Night Out”. A play by Canada’s Norm Foster… performed at Neptune from now until February 19th.
Sheila McCarthy, the award-winning stage and TV actor known most recently from her “Little Mosque on the Prairie” fame, brings Theresa Parliament to life. She plays a funny, charming and delightfully quirky housewife… who leaves you rooting for her new lease on life and all the folly that comes along with it! McCarthy is a treat to watch as she moves through one scene change after the next… a full two hours on stage that fly by in a torrent of laugh out loud moments!
I was thrilled to sit in the balcony at Neptune last night with my biggest supporter and friend (otherwise known as Mom.) We started with supper at Durty Nelly’s, then laughed our way through a most enjoyable evening.
Take my advice, give Neptune a call and book a girls night out. Throw in dinner and drinks and call it a date! I’m sure you’ll all enjoy meeting Theresa as much as I did!!
Oh… and as an added bonus…. Neptune has graciously provided a pair of tickets for one of the readers of “Curtains are Open”!
For your chance to win…

I'm looking forward to seeing this show, regardless of whether I win the tickets! I have quite a few years before my 32nd wedding anniversary (the answer to your question), but maybe it will give me some ideas should MY husband forget! TLH

p.s. LOVE reading your Blog, Queen. Its witty charm brings a smile to my face every time.
Theresa and her husband have been married 32 years. I'm a former Neptune subscriber who misses the theatre and would love to win. I've been contemplating this play for a few days now. And, as a newlywed, I'm still in the honeymoon phase ! Sigh!!

Theresa and her husband have been married for 32 years plus a few months. Those months following her husband's forgetting their anniversary were well used by Theresa; she re-discovered herself and a whole new world of empowerment.
@PatH… send me your email address please!
