I don’t pump my own gas.
I have this idea that I’m going to meet a man someday who’ll open the car door for me, bring me a cup of tea in the morning and pump my gas for me… or is chivalry dead?
So far it’s not really working… so I’m forced to open my own door, get my own tea… and head to full serve when I’m in need of gas!
It’s a bit difficult to find a gas station that offers the service… but luckily for me… Wilson’s is just down the road and… even better… when you pay with cash you save 2 cents per litre… and there’s nothing better than getting my two cents worth.
The boys there know me. There was one fella who always would tell me when my tires needed air… then proceed to put air in them. He’s gone now… and I kind of miss him (and I think my tires need air). Then there’s another who actually knows my pin number so I don’t have to get out of the car in the rain and enter it myself! I KNOW… THAT’S HORRIBLE!!!!! Dammit I’ll change my pin this week! But regardless… he’s funny… pumps my gas… checks my oil… fills my car with windshield fluid (which by the way they topped up for free every Tuesday in the Winter). When I had my old van he’d practically patch the thing together with duct tape… or at least suggest to me where to put it! He celebrated with me when the van finally died and I got a new car. They’ve taken the time to get to know me a little… or at least get to know my car!
Wednesday I dropped in to fill my tank and was bombarded by a group of women in pink t-shirts offering cookies to the children and coffee to me… cleaning my windshield… pumping my gas. It was “Customer Appreciaton Day” and managers from various stores across the province volunteered to travel about the various locations to show their appreciation… little did they realize that the fella’s at Wilson’s in Rockingham show their appreciation every time I visit. But it was nice to get the added boost… and the kids loved the cookies!

On August 18th they’ll be in Tantallon from 9am-10am, Spryfield from 1am-12pm, Rockingham from 1pm-2pm and Sackville from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Finally, on August 25th you’ll catch the ladies at Fall River from 9am-10am, Walker St. Truro from 11:30am-12:30pm and Great Village from 1:30pm-2:30pm.
Drop into Wilson’s at any of these Wednesdays during the summer so these crazy ladies in pink can run at your car like the pit crew at a Formula One race. Let them show you how much they appreciate you. Or… drop into Wilson’s on any other day… they’ll appreciate you anyway!
Ahh Wilson's … how I miss it. Although I did manage to find a couple of guy friends who, if with me, will pump gas for me. Also found a great Full Serve PetroCan here in Vancouver with a guy who smiles so much and thanks me so much I feel better when I leave. – Angel
