Who are you getting the flu shot for? {Plus a GIVEAWAY!}

When I left the doctors office a few weeks ago, with a diagnosis of Shingles and an order to go on bed rest…he commented that I had to be really careful since I had the immune system of a baby.

What he should have said was…I had the immune system of a toddler about to enter daycare for the first time and STAY AWAY FROM ALL THE GERMS OR YOU’RE GONNA GET THEM ALL!

If you’ve been following my blog for long you know that time and time again I’m complaining about my sinuses as one infection after another rips through me. In early November, I visited an ENT specialist who was bound and determined to finally get to the end of the misery one way or another and he put me on FOUR different medications.

Within days, I felt WONDERFUL and can honestly say that eight weeks later, here I am with full breaths in my lungs and a perfectly clear nose…with no tissues in sight! Unfortunately, with resistance at an all time low and stresses in my life…I also got SHINGLES!

For the last few weeks I’ve chronicled my misery on Insta Stories and the only good that’s coming out of any of it, is that I’ve convinced a number of my 50+ friends to get their shingles vaccine.

While I’ve been staying home and getting better (slowly but surely), I’m also avoiding all the other germs that are floating around out there…like the FLU!

With everything I’ve had going on, I’ve not been able to get the Flu Shot yet but as soon as I can…I’ll be heading to Shoppers Drug Mart. Recent studies show that flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are well-matched to the flu vaccine. In the meantime, I implore you all…GET THE FLU SHOT FOR ME…for the compromised folks out there who really and truly can’t tolerate being ill. For my Dad with his heart problem. For my friend who is pregnant. For another friend with cancer. For ME…and for YOU.

Who are you getting the flu shot for?

Shoo the Flu:

  • Get active – physical activities such as a brisk walk or playing sports can help keep your immune system going strong to fight off any viruses you may come into contact with
  • Stay stress-free – a lot of stress wreaks havoc on your body by weakening your immune system. Try to reduce your workload or incorporate activities that help to reduce stress, such as yoga or breathing exercises
  • Always wash your hands with soap and water for 15 seconds to help avoid spreading and picking up germs
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick

And GET THE FLU SHOT!

  1. I’m getting the flu shot for myself mostly, but also in hopes of not spreading any unwanted viruses to my family and friends.

  2. I’m getting the flu shot for myself, my elderly parents, and really everyone else… the little kids and co-workers.
Unfortunately I may be too late as I was sick on the weekend ? and woke up feeling less than well again this morning. With a cough and I have the chills right now ?. So I’m in isolation for a bit! Aaargh.

  3. I got the flu shot for myself and for everyone I meet – and for everyone they meet, too!

  4. For myself to ward off the worst if I get sick, but for my 10 MO grandson that doesn’t need to get sick!

  5. Always for my dad. He’s had an organ transplant so he takes immunosuppressants and is very high risk for complications due to the flu.

  6. I will admit that we did not get our flu shots this year, but are practicing lots of other ways to keep our immune systems up and avoid getting sick. We used to always get the flu shots on account of my husbands asthma but he had a reaction one year so we started working on natural immunity.

  7. I’m getting the flu shot for everyone out there that is immuno-compromised as I’ve been in that position before and know how important it is that we all do our part.

  8. The family is getting the flu shot for our protection and that of grandma who is staying with us.
