You know when you spend a little bit of time getting to know someone and then they’re gone and you’re left with that thought of “shoot…I’d like a bit more time with that person,” followed with that nagging feeling of “I could actually be friends with her!”
That’s the warm and fuzzy feeling I got while meeting Lynn Spence last week…she was in town to show me the brand new Spring Collection from Sears Canada. Lynn hand-picked a few key looks from the spring/summer collection at Sears Canada that showcase the ability to be comfortable and fun… with great pops of colour and a whole whack of style!
While comfortably enjoying pastries and coffee in her hotel room, Lynn showed me the collection that was spread out on her bed as if she’d just emptied her closet and was helping me decide what to wear for an evening out with my new friend…where maybe we’d head out to see a few sites, drop by a restaurant for a lobster sandwich, clink glasses and toast our parents at a nearby pub.
Instead…Lynn was in and out faster than you could say NEW SPRING CLOTHES and moving on to the next destination. A new friendship here and gone that quickly but leaving an impression on me…as wonderful and vibrant as the wardrobe she’d laid out for me to take a peek at!
“Clothes have to suit your lifestyle,” Lynn commented as she placed a jean jacket over a white sweatshirt, paired with a floral flowy skirt…the same skirt that only moments before looked elegant with a floral top tucked into its waist band making it look like a dress, then switched with a striped top to look a bit more casual and fun! We’re busy women…and we need to be able to go from meeting to lunch to drinks with friends while looking and feeling fabulous. No one has time to fuss and muss throughout the day…everything should just work well together…multiple pieces that combine with one another to create new outfits every day…all with great price points and fabulous quality.
Lynn was filled with lots of advice and here are a few tips she shared:
Throw a Pattern Party! Mixing patterns is on trend this season and it doesn’t have to be scary! Combine colours that complement each other, and keep in mind the scale of the prints…a bigger print should be paired with smaller print, rather than small print on small print.
Blush is the New Neutral! The soft pink shade goes with EVERYTHING and works with an array of skin tones. Plus…it makes you feel rather pretty!
Wear White all Year Long. Yup, this one surprised me but white pants are the thing to do! Lynn also showed me a beautiful pair of off-white jeans that looked spectacular with a Navy and White striped blazer. Her three key tips for wearing white…first, make sure your pants are as opaque as possible (denim is the safest bet). Second, think slim vs. skin-tight for fit. Last but not least, if you’re still nervous about rocking white denim, pair it with a long tunic like shirt!
Show a Little Ankle. Time to roll up those pant legs! Ankle length pants are a key item for your spring and summer wardrobe. Show a little skin…you’ll appear a bit taller and it gives a great look (especially if you’re wearing fantastic shoes!)
Go Bold with Accessories. If you’re a bit like me and shy about doing bold looks, try a statement accessory like a beautiful floral bag, or bright shoe to get that exciting Spring look. “Take this purse,” Lynn stated as we tried to name the colour…settling on “pea soup green.” The fact of the matter is, it goes with every single item in this room!” And looked fantastic too!
Choose You. And THIS is my favourite tip of all! You know your body best, so make sure you’re comfortable with whatever trend you might be trying out. For me, I’m not a huge fan of dresses but that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun with a great pair of tights and a fabulous top. The idea is to take a little risk, feel good about yourself, and most of all…have a bit of fun!
Sears Canada is the perfect place for the entire family. Fabulous children’s clothes, beautiful pieces for us ladies and fantastic styles for men (you really need to check out the Wayne Gretzky line…it’s fantastic…and that’s not just my Hockey Mom persona talking!)
We poked through Lynn’s closet, chatted about family…our parents, friends, hopes and dreams…and we embraced and said good-bye until next time…when maybe we’ll do a little shopping, check out a few sites, and have a lobster sandwich…over a glass or two of wine.

love those outfits..especially the shoes! are we going to see you in them? 🙂
Not the shoes in my case (more of a boot and chuck taylor girl!) But…the jean jacket, the white shirt…both in my closet.
I love the white shirt with denim jacket! That bright yellow purse would be a perfect shot of colour with it. -Jenn
