To this day…

I’ve written a few posts on bullying.

There was the one about how I bullied. The one about how social media has changed the face of bullying. The one about the twitter hashtag I found where local high school kids were attacking one another. And the one where my daughter’s friend…took her life.

In my opinion, bullying is an epidemic.

While we faced it as children, it’s far worse in today’s society as young people simply can’t get away from it. It follows them wherever they go.

As a child, Shane Koyczan was bullied. From his experience, he started the “To This Day” project. This amazing poet, with the help of brilliant illustrators and animators, created a video to try to communicate the pain of being bullied.

On his website, Shane states:

“My experiences with violence in schools still echo throughout my life but standing to face the problem has helped me in immeasurable ways.

I wrote “To This Day”, a spoken word poem, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.

Schools and families are in desperate need of proper tools to confront this problem. We can give them a starting point… A message that will have a far reaching and long lasting effect in confronting bullying.”

Here is the wonderful, heartbreaking and beautiful piece of work. It gave me goosebumps while putting a lump in my throat, bringing tears to my eyes and a smile to my face.

Please share his project.
