At one point during the drive home, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror… the grin on my face exploding brighter than I’d seen for some time. My kids, retelling one adventure after the next.
I even had them singing camp songs.
One week at YMCA’s Camp Big Cove where cell phones, computers and iPods were cast aside for laughter, fun and play. They had an absolute ball.
I arrived an hour early… eager to hear the tales. As I approached… the sun-kissed cheeks and tired eyes told me of the fun they’d had. As they hugged their goodbyes to multiple friends… I knew… that this week of memories would last a lifetime.
It was by far, two of the best hours I’ve ever spent in the car with my kids.
They’re growing up… much as I try to deny it… it was evident from the stories they told.
And me… while there’s a sense of nostalgia associated with their changing… I’m grateful. That they’re growing up with smiles on their faces.
Reflected in mine.
