My friend Dan, a member of the Halifax Progress Club, has asked me a few times through the years to attend the Big Spring Auction to benefit the Progress Center for Early Intervention.
I’ve never attended… until last night.
See… I’ve made a promise to myself to attend everything I’ve been invited to. To put myself out there… have a bit of fun!
I was invited by a fabulous new friend to join her table and greatly enjoyed the company of the other guests. We enjoyed a fabulous meal while we watched a circus act, various presentations and enjoyed a rousing auction emceed by CTV’s Steve Murphy who told me I “gussied up pretty good when not wearing rink clothes”. (He’s a hockey parent as well!)
It really was a great evening and I was shocked by the number of people I knew who all looked so lovely in their tuxedos and exquisite gowns. Yup… I threw off the converse for a pair of heels and while totally out of my comfort zone, quite enjoyed the adventure!
The Progress Center for Early Intervention is a non-profit Resource and Community Outreach Program for Infants and Young Children with Developmental Delays. Through the years a great many of my friends have benefited from the Center, providing a place for them to receive much needed support in the first few years of their children’s lives. The Center offers support for the entire family while providing Parent Information Sessions, playgroups, at home assistance, resources when entering the school system and much, much more.
There are a great many people out there lending a helping hand for various charitable organizations and it’s always a pleasure to be in their company. My fabulous new friend is one of those people. I’m saying wonderful things about her because she bid on and won a sailing adventure for eight in St. Margaret’s Bay complete with refreshments and a luncheon served by members of the Progress Club who chances are will be wearing their tuxedos when they host the event!
And because she’s really pretty.
My friend Dan is a busy husband and father of two girls who always finds the time to help out those in need by helping to organize and attend various charitable events.
